We are the City Guides, the official tourist guides for the City of London, our official name is the City of London Guide Lecturers Association, which reflects the fact that our members give walks in the City and lecture on City related topics. The Association was founded in 1983 to promote and maintain a high standard of guiding in, and lecturing about, the City of London.
Our training course, presently run jointly by the City of London Corporation and City University, involves both theoretical and practical examinations and is accredited by the Institute of Tourist Guiding which is the standard-setting body for tourist guide training. On qualification, each guide is presented with his or her badge by the Lord Mayor which they wear when they are guiding.
Qualified guides always wear their badges when guiding, only our guides, and Blue Badge guides are qualified to guide in the City.
